The LG 47LX9500, as well as the LG 55LX9500 are known for their impeccable design, impressive number of features and overall high image quality that they offer. No matter which size you pick for your new LED TV, if you choose one from the LX9500 series, you won’t have many things to complain about. The TV set looks very well built and elegant and once you turn it on, you will be surprised to see that the image quality is always close to perfection. However, some people might be turned off when they see the hefty price tag, but maybe you can find a better deal than the MSRP. However, that price tag is not high without a reason; both of the models from the LX9500 series are 3D compatible and if you want to enjoy this feature in the comfort of your own home, you should expect a higher price than what you normally see.

Placing this TV in any room will have a huge impact. Even the smaller version, the LG 47LX9500, can grab everyone’s attention thanks to its slick design and perfectly balanced aspect. The rim is only 7/8 inches wide and a quarter of an inch of it is fully transparent, while the rest is completely black. Part of the stand is also transparent, which creates the illusion that you are only looking at a floating screen, which is a great effect even for the 47-inch model.

The remote control comes with 45 buttons, 38 of which are illuminated. If you want to go further, you can purchase a magic wand. The Magic Wand is 9.2 inches long and 1.8 inches wide and it only contains a few buttons. However, there’s a catch. You don’t actually have to use the buttons if you don’t want to. You simply have to press the Home or Select button and then move the remote around to choose your preferred option. This feature is certainly attractive and the remote is quite comfortable to use without having to worry about pushing the wrong button.

If you are looking for a TV set that will change the way your room looks, this is certainly the one for you. It is one of the better-designed TV set that you can find on the LED or LCD TV market, and it will certainly attract a lot of attention.

Setting up the LG47LX9500
The LX9500 series is quite easy to set up. Keep in mind that this is not the best TV when it comes to high quality images in direct sunlight, so try placing it away from your windows. After you find the location and plug in the TV set, you simply have to turn it on and you will be good to go. If you want to enhance the movie viewing experience, you need to take a look at the Picture Wizard. Making the necessary adjustments will take only a few minutes and the effect will be more than noticeable. The perfect viewing angle falls somewhere between 0 and 40 degrees, so make sure that your sofa, bed or couch is positioned correctly before you start watching movies.

On the connectivity front, the LG LX9500 series comes with 4 HDMI ports, one VGA port, 2 sets of component inputs and 2 USB ports. You can also stream HD content through a mediabox without the need for wires thanks to the Wireless HD technology embedded into this LG TV.

Surely this is a full 1080p HD support television and being ultra-slim means that it is an edge-lit LED instead of a backlit one. There may be debates about edge-lit LED technology not as good as backlit ones due to the non-availability of local dimming. However, this LG 42SL9500 features an ultra dynamic contrast ratio of 3 million:1 that covers its edge-lit technological flaws. To add to this dynamism, The 1080p panel is driven by LG’s proprietary XD Engine processing.

The smoothness of image displays is supported by a 100Hz TruMotion control. There is also an “Intelligent Sensor” that is supposed adjust the brightness output based on ambient lights.

The LG 42SL9500 is also said to be an environmental friendly product, being that it uses LED technology without mercury. It also uses lesser power compared to previous technology using LCD and plasma, and its colors are pleasant to the eyes.

Also, the LG 42SL9500 has been endorsed by the Imaging Science Foundation because of its flexibility and carries two ISF options in its presets. This means that LG has perfected the art of creating menus that is intuitive and very friendly to its users.

Most people are excited to hear about the 3D capabilities of the LG 47 and 55LX9500. Unfortunately, neither one of these models can convert 2D signal to 3D and you need to purchase your 3D glasses separately. This is an inconvenient, especially if you take a look at some of LGs competitors and find similar TV sets which come with included glasses and the possibility to convert the 2D signal into 3D. You can choose between the Standard, Cinema and Game modes while in the 3D viewing mode, but they don’t have a major impact on the image quality.

Streaming has returned once again and now you have access to Netflix, YouTube, Vudu video and you can even stream from your USB device. You won’t receive access to Facebook, but you can go on Twitter, Picasa, Flickr,, Skype and a few other apps. If you want to use Skype for conferences, you will have to get the speakerphone, which is sold separately.

This is basically an LCD TV with LED backlights and the 55 inch version comes with 240 zones which can be dimmed according to your needs. This means that you can really improve the quality of the movie you are watching if you make the right choice.

The LG 47LX9500 comes with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and you can be sure that the image will remain clear in any condition. The image is especially clear if you make the room darker and you will also enjoy getting immersed in 3D movies once you get used with the glasses.

Pros and Cons
On the up side, the image detail offered by the LX9500 series is impeccable. You can even watch 3D movies at very high quality and you will have nothing to complain about in most situations. The TV set looks amazing in any room and the design is perfect from every angle. However, there are a few things to worry about.

Other TV sets that fall into the same price range can offer 2D to 3D conversion, so if you are looking for a TV especially because you want a glimpse of the third dimension, the LG might not be your best choice. The fact that you have to purchase the 3G glasses separately is also a disadvantage, mainly because you already have to deal with the somewhat high price tag.

Those who are happy with the price and don’t expect much from the 3D capabilities of the LG LX9500 series, will have a hard time finding another flaw with this TV set. The picture quality is impressive, the design is amazing and the overall built quality is remarkable.

The review above applies to LG 55LX9500 for 55".
